Retirement Planning
What to Organize Before You Retire
A practical retirement planning guide for Westlake Village and Conejo Valley families, covering income, taxes, investments, risk, and estate coordination.

Communities we serve
The largest city in the Conejo Valley, home to major employers and long-settled neighborhoods, a few minutes from the Palm Coast office.
Palm Coast Wealth Management’s office is on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village, just off the 101 at Westlake Boulevard, a few minutes from the Thousand Oaks city line. Thousand Oaks households are the firm’s neighbors in the most literal sense: the same valley, the same freeway, the same hospitals, and many of the same employers.
Meetings take place by Zoom or in person at the Westlake Village office, whichever you prefer. Meeting format and availability can be discussed when scheduling, and the first conversation is complimentary.

About Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is the largest city in the Conejo Valley and includes the community of Newbury Park. It is home to Amgen’s headquarters, California Lutheran University, and Los Robles Regional Medical Center, and its employment base leans toward biotechnology, healthcare, and professional services. For many households that means compensation arrives partly as company stock, with the vesting calendar, the tax withholding gap, and a growing concentration in one employer that come with it.
The city also has a large population of long-tenured homeowners who bought decades ago. Their property tax bills reflect Proposition 13, their homes carry substantial unrealized gains, and their children face Proposition 19 reassessment if they inherit and do not move in. Retirement, estate, and property decisions in Thousand Oaks are therefore unusually intertwined, and the order in which they are made matters.
Planning priorities
Restricted stock and options from a biotech or healthcare employer can become most of a family’s net worth. We help decide what to sell at vest, how to cover the tax, and how quickly to diversify.
Pension elections, retiree medical, Social Security timing, and the shift from a paycheck to portfolio income, planned in the years before the date rather than after.
Whether children can afford to keep an inherited home after reassessment, and how the estate plan, the trust, and the rest of the assets should account for that.
California’s treatment of capital gains and high marginal rates make the timing of sales, conversions, and gifts a yearly question to review with your CPA.

Questions Conejo Valley families can ask when evaluating fiduciary financial planning, advisor fit, compensation, credentials, and planning process.
No. The firm’s only office is at 2625 Townsgate Road, Suite 330, Westlake Village, which is a few minutes from Thousand Oaks along the 101. Thousand Oaks clients meet there; meeting format and availability can be discussed when scheduling.
We inventory the grants, agree on a concentration limit and a default action at each vesting date, estimate the true tax with your CPA so withholding shortfalls do not surprise you, and plan the path to diversification across tax years. For insiders, trading plans and blackout periods are coordinated with your company’s counsel.
Three things usually: the unrealized gain and how the home fits your retirement and estate plans; the Proposition 19 rules, which reassess most inherited homes unless a child moves in; and, if you are 55 or older and considering a move, the ability under Proposition 19 to transfer your property tax base to a new home in California. Each should be reviewed with your estate attorney and CPA.
Successful individuals, families, professionals, and business owners, often with $1 million or more in investable assets, who want an ongoing planning relationship rather than occasional investment commentary, and who value clear explanations and coordination with their CPA and attorney.
